New York goes berserk for beer

New York City Beer Week

Opening Bash features 75 breweries

New York goes berserk for beer next month when the city plays host to the 11th Annual New York City Beer Week.

The 10-day affair runs from Friday, 23 February, to Sunday, 4 March, and includes 150 events in all five city boroughs and at 100 different NYC beer destinations.

Some of the events taking place include the Opening Bash Festival with two sessions at the Brooklyn Expo Center on 23 February, and the Rupperts Cup Awards Gala with special awards for state malt and hop brew, venue, event and bartender.

Organised by the New York City Brewers' Guild (NYCBG) the Opening Bash Festival features more than 75 breweries, including 40 from within the state and more than 30 guest brewers from around the US. There'll also be a food court bringing a flavour of the city's awesome local vendors, plus music, games and heaps of brewery merchandise.

The NYC Brewers' Guild is also brewing a collaboration beer at Interboro Spirits and Ales, which will be canned and sold as part of the VIP ticket package.
