The Cambridge English dictionary describes “scry” as a method of seeing “what will happen in the future... by looking into an object such as a mirror or glass ball”.

It’s a technique still practised today by mediums who profess to have the power to communicate with the spirits of the dead or with entities from another world or dimension by gazing into crystal balls, but its origins go way back to the ancient world when hydromancy, a form of water scrying, was believed to have been used by the Oracle of Delphi, a high priestess at the Temple of Apollo, who utilised it among other divinatory techniques.
